Why Visit
The Silver Pagoda, officially known as Wat Preah Keo Morokat (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), is one of Phnom Penh's most extraordinary sites. The pagoda's floor is covered with over 5,000 silver tiles weighing 1kg each, giving the temple its popular name. Inside, discover Cambodia's most precious religious artifacts, including a small 17th-century emerald Buddha statue and a life-sized gold Buddha adorned with 9,584 diamonds. The pagoda compound is also home to a stunning collection of gifts from foreign dignitaries, intricate murals depicting the Ramayana, and various other religious and historical treasures. The exterior features classic Khmer architecture with golden spires and detailed ornamentation, while the surrounding gardens offer a peaceful retreat. Note that visitors must dress respectfully (covered shoulders and knees) and remove shoes before entering the pagoda. Entrance fee: $3 USD, with an additional $2 USD if you wish to take photos. Photography is allowed only in the outside exhibition areas.
