Performers, showcasing astonishing energy and talent, are graduates from Phare Ponleu Selpak vocational training center in Battambang.
Phare Ponleu Selpak was founded in 1994 by nine young men, coming home from a refugee camp after the Khmer Rouge regime, were inspired by an art teacher who used drawing as therapy.
They established an art school, which grew to include public, music, theater, and circus schools, offering free education and vocational training.
Phare Circus provides these artists a vital platform to hone their skills, earn a living wage, and break cycles of poverty, fostering self-respect and freedom.
